Media Communications Internship

Authority Health has various communications channels involving media: print and broadcast news media, community news and information media, social media and other forms of targeted publicity. This internship offers an opportunity for a communications student with an interest in community health to develop multi-media strategies along various media channels to support communications objectives.
This position reports to the vice president for Public Affairs at Authority Health, which sponsors a Population Health Council and Detroit Regional Health Collaborative, among other community initiatives. The Media Communications intern will be responsible for translating messages into communications media and conducting placement and follow-up. Specific emphasis will be on developing a sustainable social media function for the organization.
Health communication content includes institution-specific messaging, advocacy, community health, and behavioral change.
Students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field required.
Proficient using social media tools required. Composition skills sufficient to prepare written materials as needed.
Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate with board members, vendors and suppliers such as video producers, printers, graphic designers and photographers, staff and public.
Hours / Work Location: 16-20 hours / week in Detroit
Rate: $10-$11 / hour DOE
