Detroit Zoological Society Seeks Communications Interns

Want to mingle with the macaronis and pal around with the polar bears while learning valuable public relations and communications skills? Then the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) has the internship for you!  The DZS is seeking college student interns who are in their junior or senior year and studying Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related fields.

Communications interns are responsible for researching and drafting press releases, talking points, newsletter profiles, web content, social media posts and other materials; proofing copy; scheduling and coordinating media interviews; escorting media through the Zoo during video/photo shoots; assisting with occasional commercial and motion picture film shoots and special events; updating website content; and performing other communications-related assignments.

Interns work closely with the Communications staff and other interns while learning valuable skills needed in the Public Relations/Communications workforce.  Excellent writing and speaking skills as well as photography/video experience are a plus.

The DZS is now accepting applications for the summer internship, the duration of which is early May through late August; 16 hours (two days) per week.  This is a non-paid internship, and it is mandatory that students receive course credit.

The DZS is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity in the workforce. The organization maintains a drug-free workplace and performs pre-employment background checks and drug screening.

The deadline for summer resumes is March 3, 2017.
